Riverside Walk Gardens
Plincke were selected from 107 expressions of interest to develop design options for this public space near Tate Britain. Opened in 2004, the revitalised gardens contribute significantly to the public realm in Westminster and provide a visual link to Vauxhall. The project forms part of the regeneration of the Millbank area and links into a number of initiatives. Among these is an arts trail from Tate Britain to Pimlico Tube Station and a new pier designed by Mark Barfield Architects.
Our final design was selected from a number of options presented both to the client and at community consultation. It is a contemporary reflection of the space in the context of the Thames-side and historic setting. We worked closely with The Henry Moore Foundation on the setting of one of his sculptures – Locking Piece, which was re-sited as part of a comprehensive review of how the space is used and viewed by visitors and local residents.
