International School, Luxembourg
Plincke teamed up with EWA in Berlin to produce competition proposals for a new primary school in Luxembourg City. The site was adjacent to a motorway so the plans focused on creating ‘worlds within worlds’ featuring an enclosed wooded courtyard, providing outdoor classrooms and social areas away from the noise of the cars. The school comprised of three main buildings linked by aerial walkways. The oval teaching areas with covered atria were for early years and juniors respectively, and a shared facilities building to the south. Rooftop play spaces made the most of a compact site.
