Plincke were appointed by the Royal Household Property Section to prepare a visitor management plan at Europe’s largest castle. The commission involves carefully considering the impact of increasing visitor numbers since the restoration of the fire damage whilst maintaining the Castle’s unique sense of place. A new entrance and alternative visitor routes were proposed which will open up areas of the Castle hitherto out of bounds. Careful consideration was given to issues such as security, access, orientation and interpretation. Special needs access will also be improved to ensure greater accessibility to the Castle.
