Le Murier SEN Secondary School, Gurnsey

Le Murier got the thumbs-up from new arrivals, ‘One student said it was like being in the future’ (head teacher Alan Brown)

The 130 pupil Le Murier SEN Secondary School is collocated with a mainstream school, sharing facilities including a sports hall, swimming pool, climbing wall, and outdoor grass and synthetic sports pitches.

Though designed with its own sense of identity and entrance, the collocation with St Sampson’s High School allows all pupils and staff to interact, share expertise, teaching and learning strategies.  The landscape design specifically fosters an environment that breaks down preconceived ideas about different types of disability and difficulty, encouraging pupils to learn and play together.

The project forms part of Guernsey’s £110 million programme of educational improvements.  Plincke were selected as framework landscape architects for all six projects within the programme.
