Jo Richardson School, Dagenham

A brand new school with a full service eight form entry and a wide range of shared facilities such as a day nursery, clinic, sports facilities, community library and adult education centre.

The extended use of the school links it to its community. The design features a bold plaza linking directly to the street, making a statement of confidence in one of the country’s most deprived areas.

The landscape extends from this high quality public threshold to more secure outdoor learning gardens. These have direct relationships with the internal functions of the school and include spaces for outdoor drama, arts and science projects.

The project is a CABE and central government exemplar and CASE Case Study project.

The modern design, use of the latest technology, and the open space have created a superb learning environment. Our aim is to provide our students with a range of opportunities both inside and outside the classrooms.
