Whitings Hill Primary School, Barnet
Plincke provided landscape proposals for Whitings Hill, currently one of Barnet’s ‘challenging schools’.
Our proposals provide external learning and play areas which breakout from internal classrooms, to form a fluid sequence of ‘journeys’ through the school environment. There is a strong emphasis on outdoor learning and engagement with nature is encouraged through the creation of habitat areas around more formal play spaces.
The external learning spaces allow for both group activity and one-to-one tutoring, with a central courtyard for school events and larger gatherings. The new school entrance also allows for an increased ‘street presence’, which promotes the school’s identity and displays of pupils work, as well providing a safe off-street area for pupil drop-off and collection.
