Lowther Children’s Centre

The Lowther Children’s Centre is a new foundation stage learning facility replacing an aging nursery and providing reception teaching. The children’s centre has upgraded the entrance to the school and created a wealth of facilities forming an important part of the social context of the neighbourhood. Our design response contrasts the accessible and public nature of the frontage with a secure and green play garden to the rear. Designed with a simple palette of materials the scheme is exemplar of how good design can overcome restricted budgets.

The project won a Civic Trust Award in March 2010. ‘Staff, children and users of this building say it is a wonderful place to work, play and visit and is a much appreciated addition to the community.’ Civic Trust Award

The project also won an RIBA Award in June 2010, and was also shortlisted for the London Building of the Year Special Award.
