Moscow Private Airport

The project sought to redress the diminished experience of air travel by reconnecting the pre-flight journey and vehicular arrival with the emotion attached to flight and the preparation for the air born transfer.

On leaving the motorway, the passengers vehicle gradually descends from the ramp towards an increasingly dense forest. The check point requires a car to stop. The proximity of forest trees, the change in light levels act as a decompression of urban stress.

The emergence from the forest is abrupt and precise. Encountered through the car windows is a landscape surface with a gentle curvature. The experience intensified by the screening of other vehicles and buildings.

The landscape signifiers collectively reference the experience of flight. A continuum of surface and line, in a landscape of expansive distance. The curvature directly relates to the mean radius of the earth, being a 1/20 of 6371km (318.5m). The approach line is a straight trajectory, precise and determined with a point destination anticipated prior to arrival.

The artificial horizon created by the ground plane is constantly changing with the seasons, snow to meadow , to lawn, to ice, the constant is the line of travel. The strong tree forms anchor the site to its surroundings, and to the seasons.
