National Epilepsy Centre
The David Lewis Centre is the largest UK provider of medical, educational, residential, and assessment services for people with complex epilepsy and other neurological conditions, including learning disability and challenging behaviour. Spread across an 80-acre, semi-rural campus near Alderley Edge, Cheshire, the facility comprises a specialist school for pupils, aged 7 – 19, a college for young people aged 16 – 25 years, and a Supporting Adult Living Service. The centre also provides and a range of healthcare and assessment facilities focussing on epilepsy and associated disorders.
Our brief was to prepare an overall masterplan for the site setting out a framework for phased future development over a 10 year period. The study forms a lasting management tool to assist in the long-term decision making process with regards to maximising the potential of the site. It sets out to identify the constraints and opportunities for development, including the impact upon the built and natural characteristics of the site.
