Valence House Museum
Valence House is the only surviving of the five manor houses of Dagenham and is partially surrounded by a medieval moat. The Grade 2* Listed building originates from the 1400′s with later extensions added at various times. It is now the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham’s local history museum and its grounds are a public park.
The project has restored the setting of Valence House, including a re-designed landscape within an extended area of moat, new museum fit out, and a contemporary visitor centre to house education and function rooms, a cafe and secure archive. A series of learning gardens provide for curriculum interest for school visits that supports project’s community outreach programme.
Plincke worked closely with architects FCB Studios on the project, including landscape and historic advice on the successful Stage I & II lottery bid to the HLF.
