Plincke were lead consultants for the design, planning and funding strategy for Leamington Spa’s new temperate house, located within a Listed historic park. We employed and co-ordinated a wide range of consultants including: architects, structural engineers, m&e engineers, and cost advisors. Plincke secured funding for a BREEAM advisor to work with the design team to embed low energy features into the design.

Our concept for the building was of a flight of birds emerging over a line of mature trees to land on a lake in the foreground. The formation of the birds in flight informs the building’s roof form and profile. The more solid elements, comprising the restaurant and education centre act as ‘book ends’ to the light-weight glasshouse.

Revenue generators were considered in line with the long term sustainability of the project and despite the restaurant being commercially run this component also received HLF funding as a portion of the revenue is directed back into the maintenance of the historic park. The education centre is run by Warwickshire College who use the facilities as part of its outreach training programmes.

The project has received several design awards including a Civic Trust Award, RIBA Award, RHS, and Green Flag awards.
