ARK St. Albans Academy

The latest academy for ARK, a charity that focuses on improving the live chances of young people, is scheduled to open for September 2012.  Located in a deprived area of birmingham, the 100% new-build academy will specialise in mathematics and engineering.  The external spaces combine four learning zones that enhance curriculum delivery, especially large scale projects and vocational activities.  These include global, creative, and logic zones that all connect to a central collaboration space. The zones utilise the external footprint of the existing school that will be demolished when the academy is complete.

A key feature of the proposals is the relationship between the academy, the adjacent CoE church and the wider community.  The landscape design blurs the traditional relationship between private and public spaces with some areas of the academy grounds acting as a community park with high levels of unrestricted public access.
