20.08.10 Gheluvelt Park + Memorial opening ceremony

Gheluvelt Park was officially re-opened on the 14th August 2010 and Plincke’s new interpretative feature, to commemorate the First World War Battle of Gheluvelt, was officially unveiled.

The park has benefitted from the restoration of historic features, rejuvenated planting and tree works, better access for disabled visitors, improved paths, furniture and lighting, as well as new play spaces and the ‘Splashpad’ – a state of the art water feature.

Anne Jenkins, Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for the West Midlands said on behalf of the HLF and BIG: “We are delighted that this investment has helped to preserve such an important part of our regional heritage. The completion of these facilities will improve the experience of visiting this wonderful open space for locals and visitors alike.”
